Match Report - 29 Nov 2008, Wormley Rovers FC Reserve Team drew with Standon & Puckeridge Reserves
The first test for the new players was finding the ground, this started badly when they followed one of the netball players out of the Worms car park, but somehow we managed to accumulate all 20 players, 2 dogs, a cat & an Aussie at the ground, team selection was going to be difficult, thankfully one or two players put there hands up to miss out so we could look at a few of our new signings. We decided to start 2 of the new players & had 3 more on the bench ,plus with Copey making his first start of the season the warm up took on more of a meet & greet than game preparation.
The danger of this was that we started slow, but this was not to be as we got the better of the early exchanges and was unlucky not to be 2 goals to the good within 10 minutes, when the first goal came it was a bit of a surprise that it was for Standon & Puckerage, this didn’t change the game much with Wormley dominating the possession and Standon & Puckerage looking dangerous on the break, the Worms managed to get two goals before half time. (15 to 1 shot for the first goal ) George Brixton scoring and then Simmo netting his first for the club, he was off and running (quite literally and the diving celebration bemused the old bloke and his young dog)

The second half started slowly for Wormley and they were made to pay with a ten minute “mad spell” where they conceded 3 goals to be 4-2 down in game they had control of before half time, a change in personnel and shape with 15 minutes left see Wormley regain the superiority they had enjoyed before the break, Mike Dodd scored two well taken goals and could have completed his hat-trick had he not stumbled under a heavy challenge (apparently it’s only a penalty if you go down).
The score ended 4-4, after the game it felt like 2 points dropped but being 4-2 down with 15 minutes to go it could possibly turn out to be a point gained !
